| Why Olive Oil?
| Olive Oil is an excellent choice inside and out.
The use of olive oil in cosmetics dates back to antiquity.
The soothing, protective, and hydrating properties have all played
their part in cosmetics to this day.
In cosmetics: Considered an excellent carrier
for essential oils with excellent lubricity, pale colour and low
odour. There are claims that its unsaponifiable fraction behaves
as a non biological precursor targeting epidermal keratinocytes
and stimulating the synthesis of collagen, elastin, proteoglycans,
and glycoproteins (Michaum and Michaum 2001, 'Milady's' Skin Care
and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary)
In the diet: Kathryn Marsden author of the book
'Superskin'(2002) describes cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
in one's diet as "one of life's most important skin savers". As
an oil rich in monounsaturates it is now known to be "extremely
beneficial for healthy blood, healthy skin and for all kinds of
gall bladder and kidney ailments."
Olive Oil has been linked to the following health benefits –
- Lowering the risk of heart disease.
- Reduction in the level of LDL(bad) cholesterol.
- Lowering blood pressure.
- Decrease in blood sugar levels.
- Increase in the absorption of several vitamins including A, D, E, and K .
- Stimulation of gall bladder to secrete bile, which helps to prevent gallstones.
- Promotes cellular growth, speeds healing and helps the metabolism.
